Card Ink for iPhone and iPad

Draft for attorney review. This text is adapted from the App Store listing drafts and hasn't been approved. It isn't legal advice. Items marked "To confirm" must be checked against the submitted app build before publishing.

Effective date: [date of publication]

Card Ink is a flashcard app for iPhone and iPad, published by Cryptus Consulting LLC ("Cryptus Consulting," "we," "us"). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the Card Ink app.

The short version: The Card Ink app doesn't collect personal information. There's no account and no sign-in, and the app itself doesn't send your cards, notes, or study history to us or to anyone else. Copies can exist outside your device only in the ways described below: your device backups, backup files you export, and, if you've opted in through Apple, crash reports and usage statistics that Apple shares with us. If you email us, we receive what you send.

What the app stores, and where

Card Ink saves the following on your device:

We can't see this information. If you use iCloud Backup or back up your device to a computer, iOS may include it in that backup. It also leaves your device if you export a backup file yourself (see below).

What the app does not do

To confirm: engineering must check these against the submitted build. In particular, the native app must bundle its font and must not store per-set elapsed time.

Internet use

Card Ink works without an internet connection, and the app itself doesn't send your cards, notes, or study history over the internet. Features of iOS that you control, such as iCloud Backup and Apple's analytics sharing, work separately from the app.

Backups you make

You can save a backup file of your cards, ink, settings, and set history from Settings. Backup files aren't encrypted. You choose where the file goes, for example Files or another app through the share sheet. Once you save or send it, it's handled by wherever you put it, and that service's terms apply. We never receive your backup files. Restoring reads a file you pick, on your device.

Your device's own backups

If you use iCloud Backup or back up your device to a computer, iOS may include Card Ink's data in that backup. Apple's privacy policy covers iCloud. A computer backup is under your control.

Crash reports and usage statistics from Apple

If you've chosen to share analytics with app developers (Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements > Share With App Developers), Apple may share crash reports and usage statistics about Card Ink with us, in a form that doesn't identify you. We use them only to find and fix problems and to understand how the app is used. You can turn this off at any time in that setting. If you test Card Ink through Apple's TestFlight, crash data is sent to us automatically, and any feedback you submit reaches us.

Attorney review: how to describe this, and whether it affects the "doesn't collect" statement and the App Store privacy label.

Contacting us

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write, and we use them only to reply and help you. Please don't send sensitive personal information, such as details about your citizenship or immigration status. We can help with the app, but we can't give legal or immigration advice.

Attorney review: support email retention period and handling of sensitive data.

This website

This website (cardinkapp.com) doesn't use cookies, analytics, or tracking, and it doesn't load fonts, scripts, or other files from third parties. Like any website, the company that hosts it may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, to run and secure the site.

To confirm: name the hosting provider and check its logging once a host is chosen.

Children

Card Ink is a study app for high school students and adults. It isn't made for children under 13, and the app doesn't collect personal information from anyone, of any age.

Pat and attorney to decide: this audience statement must match the age rating chosen for the build (4+ for math only, likely 13+ with Virginia Road Rules).

Deleting your data

Your Card Ink data is on your device, so you control it. Deleting the app removes its data from your device. Copies in your device backups or in backup files you exported stay there until you delete them.

Your rights

Because the app doesn't collect personal information, we have no app data about you to access, correct, or delete. If you've emailed us, you can ask us to delete that correspondence.

Attorney review: state-specific or international wording, which depends on the storefront choice.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll post the new version on this page with a new effective date. If Card Ink ever starts collecting information, we'll update this policy and the app's App Store privacy details first.
